In one word describe leadership.
When I found out about The Art of Leadership for Women conference I ran, scratch that, flew to my computer. This event held May 29th at the Metro Toronto Convention is one not to be missed and is a must attend whether your running a Fortune 500 company or starting your own business from the ground up.
Co-founders Scott Kavanagh and Chris Novais, created Toronto based “The Art Of” so that professionals in all industries can come together sharing their philosophies and ideas. These high profile business conferences are run annually and include New York Times bestselling authors and world-renowned leaders. With over 20,000 attendees throughout the year it is an event focused on providing business professionals and entrepreneurs with the tools, techniques and knowledge needed to succeed in today’s changing marketplace.
And on May 29th, the focus will be on Women. A full day conference on leadership and women. This is one I must attend.
I’ve recently taken a big step with Good Night Sleep Site as some of you know. We are expanding rapidly and by 2015 I will estimate to have 10 Consultants working for Good Night. For over two years it was just me, myself, and I. I was my own leader and now that my team has grown, suddenly I’m someone else’s leader. While it’s exciting and something my business and myself are ready for, it’s also completely terrifying. Will I be a good leader? Is my team satisfied with their responsibilities? Am I supporting them enough, while also allowing them the room to grow?
Can you be a natural born leader? I think some may be. But I also strongly believe that you must learn to lead well by following those that have, and surrounding yourself with those that want to. This is why I must attend.
Have I mentioned the speakers yet? Let ‘s get to it. The conference is hosted by Wendy Mesley – Award-Winning Broadcast Journalist & Anchor for CBC’s “The National” and the lineup is pretty incredible.
Martha Stewart – yes THE Martha Stewart – Squee!!
A Converstaion on Leadership, Inspiration, Work/Life Balance & More – Martha will discuss her experiences as an innovator and influential leader in the world of business and address the challenges and rewards from her path to success, her career trajectory, the importance of life-long learning, leadership, inspiration, work/life balance, and more.
Katty Kay – Lead Anchor, BBC World News Amercia & Bestselling Co-Author of the Confidence Code and Womenomics
The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance – What Women Should Know – Katty speaks on why confidence is our biggest obstacle and why men still predominate the corporate world. She explains how women need to close the gap to achieve the careers they want and deserve and she’ll tell you how you can do it.
Liane Davey – New York Time Bestselling Author of You First: Inspire Your Team to Grow Up, Get Along, and Get Stuff Done
You First: Make a Bigger Impact on Your Team – Liane will explain the costly mistakes we as women make when working in teams and how to say “no” so that you can say “yes” to what matters. I’ll be front row (or as close as I can be) for Liane. I can’t wait to hear her speak.
Erica Ariel Fox – New York Times Bestselling Author of Winning From Within & Harvard Law School Negotiation Lecturer
Personal Performance: Fulfilling your Destiny – Erica will provide a seven step method for widening your leadership range and closing what she coins your “performance gap” – the distance between your intrinsic skills and your actual behavior in high stakes situations. And she will share her Winning from Within™ method teaching women leaders how to negotiate more effectively, raise their aspiration levels, build stronger networks, take bolder risks and have more meaningful lives both professionally and personally.
Hayley Wickenheiser – Four Time Olympic Gold Medalist of the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team
Leadership Lessons from a Four-Time Olympic Gold Medalist – Hayley will tell us how success comes from going above and beyond and why complacency kills. Nothing screams team and leader than 4 gold medals – nuff said.
So if Martha freakin Stewart and the rest of these amazing speakers hasn’t sold you yet on joining me, how about why YOU need to go. This is the day to remove yourself from your everyday life. To take off your boss, employee, entrepreneur, and mom hat, and immerse yourself in a room charged with professionals, leaders, and those with the same aspirations as you. Those wanting to learn, to follow, and to be inspired. This conference isn’t just for corporate professionals, it’s also for small business owners like you and me to learn from those that have been where we are and have done it. You will be able to network and meet the best of the best and share your passions with others, while possibly meeting potential clients and partners.
We all get stuck in business ruts and I don’t know about you but coming out of the longest and coldest winter EVER I could use a serious creativity spark and I can’t imagine leaving this conference without the feeling of
