Will She Know She’s Beautiful?

I grew up in a very loving household and with a core group of friends, most of whom I’m still friends with today.

I had a great childhood.

I was loved.

I was nurtured.

I was told I was beautiful.

But still there were moments I didn’t feel beautiful and my self-esteem and confidence lacked. I don’t remember the first time I felt I wasn’t pretty enough or thin enough but I know I felt it (and admittedly still do at times as an adult.)

When did putting on a bathing suit become a “thing”? When did I start to notice that I was the brown haired, brown-eyed girl amongst the blued eyed blondes?

I know that even with the securities of my upbringing the insecurities where there.

And now that I have two daughters I wonder if and when that moment for them will click. Will they no longer tell me they’re beautiful or not believe me when I tell them they are? Will my tall daughter wish she were shorter? Will they both wish for blue eyes over their brown eyes as I did?

It’s these questions and others that make me honoured to be part of Dove’s Self-Esteem for Mother’s and Daughter’s Workshops. Dove’s self esteem workshops mission is to reach 15,000,000 young people by 2015 and through these workshops educate both mom and daughter about self-esteem and body confidence. These workshops will allow the opportunity for both mom and daughter to open up the conversation and get the tools to protect their self-esteem and confidence.

Yummy Mummy Club is hosting 25 free Dove Mom and Daughter Self-Esteem Workshops across Canada. Join us to start the conversation with your daughter about the real meaning of beauty. Click here for details on how to sign up for a workshop in your city!

And please join me at the Brampton Real Canadian Superstore location on October 15th.

You too can be part of this mission by helping to spread the word about these workshops and their locations, and attend ones in your area with your daughter.

I am acting as a Yummy Mummy Club DOVE BE YOUR BEAUTIFUL SELF Ambassador at a workshop and received compensation as part of my role. This post though is not sponsored by Dove or Yummy Mummy Club and reflects my personal opinion about this event.
