How To Winterize Your Bedroom For Better Sleep

Do you notice that your sleep habits or sleep patterns change with the seasons? It can be harder to sleep well during the summer due to the heat and humidity, but the colder temperatures can also make it more difficult to get a solid, restful sleep too. We’ve talked before about the importance of your sleep environment, and so in light of winter being on its way, we’re sharing helpful information on how to get your sleep space ready for winter.

When we’re talking sleep environment, it’s not only what’s happening inside your bedroom that you need to pay attention too, but external factors as well. In the winter months, the air gets drier and mornings are certainly darker, but by preparing your space properly, these seasonal changes don’t need to affect your sleep quality.

4 Ways To Prepare Your Sleep Space For Winter

Let’s take a closer look at specific elements, and how they can affect how well your sleeping. Keep in mind that if you’re making changes to your own sleep space for winter, it’s a good idea to audit the sleep spaces for your entire family too.

1.Winterize Your Bed.

Did you know that adding cozier bedding can reduce night wakings? Think about adding the following things to help keep your bed warm and inviting on those cold winter nights.

  • Flannel sheets.
  • A heated blanket.
  • Adding an afghan can not only update your decor for a new season, but it will also serve as an extra layer of warmth for your feet or entire body.

2. Keep The Winter Chill Out Of The Bedroom.

If you notice a draft coming in from your windows, here are a few ideas to keep that winter chill out of your sleep space. Remember that you still want your room to be about 50-55 degrees Fahrenheit though, as we all sleep better in a cooler environment. If you aren’t able to easily regulate the temperature in your home, try using something like the Nest thermostat.

  • Use thicker curtains or thermal curtains.
  • Caulk windows.
  • Use an insulation kit and use plastic to seal your windows.
  • Add a thick and fluffy rug to stop heat escaping from the floor.
  • Add a safe space heater like the Dyson fan heater.

3. Winter Self Care For Better Sleep.

Many people find it hard to make it through the long winter months. Adjusting your bedtime routine is a great way to combat those winter blues.

  • Invest in a wake-up light to make dark mornings easier. A wake-up light uses light therapy to help your body wake up in a more natural way. For those who find the dark mornings really tough, this can be a game changer.
  • Add a new night cream like Dermalogica’s Sound Sleep Cocoon to battle dry skin caused by cold air. This night cream also includes essential oils that support a deep and restful sleep.
  • Add a diffuser to help keep the air fresh. Saje offers some great diffuser options that help purify the air as well as elevate your mood on a cold night.
  • Incorporating winter florals or greenery can also help keep the air clean and reduce the dreariness brought on by winter weather.

4. Update Your Space For The Season.

Let’s face it, it can be much harder to feel positive during winter. As such, it’s a great time to update your space and add a little more colour or a fresh piece of art to lift your mood. A simple addition like adding a lamp to make the room brighter can make your bedroom space a more enjoyable place to be during winter.

And if you’ve been wondering about the state of your mattress or pillows, there is no time like the present to update those two very important pieces. Shopping at a place like Leon’s allows you to check out mattresses, mattress protectors and pillows, as well as décor items that can update your space for winter.

Invest In Your Sleep This Winter

Just like all parts of your health and wellness, you’ll sometimes need to tweak what goes into helping you get that restorative sleep. Being well rested over the winter months can help ward off illness, so don’t underestimate what a few changes can do to make sure you get the rest your body needs. We promise you, it really is worth the effort to create an ideal sleep environment for the winter!
